WHY THEY SAY:
a (short) practical - biological, spiritual & emotional explanation to some common sayings.
The quotes that we see everyday donât usually hit very hard until we have gone through experiences that force us to resonate with them. So today, let me explain - why they say;
âą practice makes perfect
this has a significant connection to our brains and is called neuroplasticity. the truth is, whatever we repeat - be it habits, words, emotions, certain narratives - is what will continue. the fastest way to learn anything is through repetition. this is scientifically proven. now, your continuous repetition of a certain action will make you better at it. there are no what ifs. it just is. when they say practice makes perfect, they mean literally.
âą trust your gut
our âgut feelingâ isnât magic, and isnât random either. your gut is literally a second brain - this is not a metaphor, but a biological fact. itâs called the enteric nervous system. our bodies; the mind, body and spirit communicate with each other everyday.
inner guidance is a divine gift. so, whenever you feel or hear that eerily quiet voice in your head, itâs your body noticing things your mind hasnât processed yet, and your system protecting you, guiding you, and helping you make decisions before you can logically explain why.
âą birds of a feather flock together
let me be honest, no matter how individual we think we are, the people around us influence our ways of thinking, and sometimes actions, most of the time subconsciously. your environment and the people in it are a huge contribution to our psyche. this is called energetic resonance and mirroring. humans are wired for synchronization. this is why we slowly become the people you spend time with, even if we think youâre different.
now, of course you can maintain your individuality no matter who you spend time with, but the point is - it will never be still 100%. choose the people you surround yourself with wisely.
âą sleep on it
when people say âsleep on it,â theyâre not telling you to ignore your problems. theyâre telling you that youâre not thinking clearly yet. when youâre tired, your brain exaggerates everything. clarity doesnât come from thinking harder, it comes from stepping back. you can never truly see the full picture when youâre in it.
it is also a form of patience and reflection. pausing before acting can prevent regret and foster wisdom.
âą laughter is the best medicine
laughter nourishes the soul just as much as it nourishes the body. the act triggers the release of; dopamine (motivation), serotonin (calm), oxytocin (bonding + safety), endorphins (pain relief). these hormones are responsible for stress reduction.
moments of genuine laughter reminds the nervous system that it is more than the pain it may be going through. people donât laugh because they are healed, they heal because they realize that they are allowed to laugh.
so yes, laughter really is the best medicine.
i hope youâve learnt a little something from this, and i hope these are reminders to be in tune with your body, and look into what exactly certain habits do to us. thank you so much for being here.
with grace,
always.
