Writing this article is actually very humble and honest :) Congratulations on your bravery to step out of the self-help bubble. I really recognized myself in this. Maybe not so much right now, but I was definitely deeply influenced in my early twenties. And now I'm actually re-learning how to connect with people and how to make up and move on even though mistakes are made. Thank you for the amazing reminder. 🩷
yep! The trap of it all. Usually when you're first learning about these things, they don't come with an "everything in moderation including moderation" disclaimer. You learn it along the way.
My biggest indicator of growth was letting someone know what hurt me about what they said/did instead of cutting them off completely without a reason. Back then i didn't know that what I was afraid of was confrontation. So I just avoided the whole conversation by cutting all the cords, abruptness.
We don't know what hurts people's feelings unless we tell them. And 9 times out of 10, it turns out for the better. Your rship gets stronger cause you know more about the friend/partner you have.
Being able to be okay with being a messy human and making mistakes and apologizing is so so hard, especially in today's culture. This was a great article, very needed! Thank you for writing. 💗
Ooof!! Do I feel this and went through a similar time, although Batman never came up haha.
It’s a hard one because as much as it was safer and the experience did likely help in the area of learning and growing, the end result is totally what you mentioned that you realize that’s not the way and that, “humans were never meant to live this way.”
you are more right than you know. in a way all the self help gurus are trying to turn us all into corporate automatons. All the me first, that became super apparent during covid still scars the everyday person and how they interact with society as a whole.
This is fantastic! So true that self help rabbit hole is filled with briars that ironically get us stuck and often making choices based on a false narrative. I recall breaking up with a man after reading He’s Just Not That Into You! Ha! There were truths in the book sure, there were truths in the situation, but closing the door as I did maybe a little misguided at the time. What’s funny is I’m close to finishing a field guide to what I’ve termed Taco Tits 😂 and while it will be identified as self help/humor/reference, it’s really a tool to identify the parts of us (and strategies) when owned and fired up, carry us through our day at our highest vibe. Other than that it’s up to us. Every day. In every moment. ♥️

Mistakes are gold!
I relate to this. I feel like I was consuming from a place of inadequacy and also consuming as a form of distraction from life

There was a time, I believe I had to put up this guise of moving in silence.
I also thought I was Batman.
After a few years of practicing all I had learned, I looked around and I had no friends left or just a 2.
I realized that in a bid to embody this persona the books portrayed, I became a mountain and lived in isolation.
It seemed safer but it was also lonelier.
Humans were never meant to live that way.
